Acque S.p.A. is the coordinating beneficiary of the WIZ project.

Since 2001, Acque S.p.A. has managed the Integrated Water Service in the Basso Valdarno - (Tuscany, IT), an area reaching from the Tyrrhenian coast to the heart of Tuscany (which includes 5 provinces, 57 municipalities, with more than 770.000 citizens).
In order to protect the environment and human health, Acque S.p.A. is implementing a 650-million euro investment plan (lasting until 2021), to ensure increasing quality and efficiency standards of water services, including sewerage and sanitation systems.

In 2008, Acque Group, the first group in the water sector worldwide - which also includes subsidiaries, Acque Industriali, Acque Ingegneria and Acque Servizi - has been awarded the BEST4 certification for enterprises showing exceptional quality, environmental and human safety and social responsibility achievements.
Acque S.p.A. is also involved in solidarity programs and social projects for disseminating a modern water culture for enhancing water resources and protecting against waste and misuse. Acqua Buona, Acque Tour, Acqua ad Alta Qualità are some of the major projects managed by Acque S.p.A. that primarily involve the school population of the territory.
Between 2006 and 2009, Acque S.p.A. was the leading coordinating beneficiary of the A.S.A.P. Project (Actions for Systemic Aquifer Protection – LIFE06/ENV/IT/000255), which focused on the urgent environmental problem of the over-exploited Bientina Aquifer. The A.S.A.P. project demonstrated the viability of a protocol to scale down groundwater vulnerability to pollution from over-exploitation. The A.S.A.P. Project achieved important results and showed that it is possible to start a virtuous circle between the aquifer treatment and the citizens who benefit from it, acting as an integrated and balanced system.
